We "hit" route 66
After a very early start due to the time change, we sorted our bags, and left Kingman at 07:30, heading off on the famous "Route 66".

Ran into a spot of bother with the hire car!
-0-
...but it could have been worse...
-0- We could have chosen this car instead....

This was Elaine's hire car of choice

We both liked this...
... but it didn't have enough luggage room :(

Still, there were plenty to choose from
We'll let you know what we decided:)

Historic route 66
Anyway, the route took us through Seligman and Williams, both full of "Route 66" memorabilia. This was a great shop, that had packaging from the 50's and 60's inside, and is run by our new best friends, Frank & Lynne. Apparently, they will send us an email update (on what we have no idea?)

Not all the shops were as nice...
.... you had to shop around.

On the plus side, the people were friendly
and before you ask... No, ZZ Top were not playing locally.

Elmo's sweet ride
There were loads of bikers along the route, all riding Harleys. There was even a contingent from Japan. After asking a Hell's Angel if Elmo could borrow his bike, we moved on towards Sedona.

The red rocks of Slide Park, Sedona
After leaving the old route 66 we drove on to Sedona, an area in Arizona famed for its eroded red rock formations.

The road to the Grand Canyon
After leaving Sedona we travelled north to the Grand Canyon along some more pretty empty, long straight roads.

No more Gnu's for today ... it's just an Elk
Finally arrived at the Canyon, and saw some Elk by the road. Just in time for sunset.
